Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is the procedure that improves shape and projection. Protruding ears are the most common indication for this surgery. It allows to achieve ears that are closer to the standards accepted by society.

Why have an otoplasty?

Protruding ears are a common source of low self-esteem in children, adolescents and even adults. People are embarrassed and then adopt hairstyles or headwear to hide this defect.

Otoplasty could be the solution.

Goals

Otoplasty corrects protruding ears in 2 different ways:

  • bring the ears closer to the skull by eliminating excess of cartilage.
  • folding the helix, That is, folding the outermost part of the ear cartilage to create a normal hem.

What otoplasty cannot do

  • it does not increase or reduce the size of the ears.
  • it does not allow their position to be changed.

Scar

The scar is hidden in the crease behind the ear and is therefore invisible.
