Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgery that aims to improve the shape of the breasts and make them look firmer and more aesthetic. To do this, the surgeon must remove the excess of skin and tighten the surrounding tissue to better shape the breast.

Why have a breast lift?

Several factors come into play in making a breast ptosis (fall):

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • weight fluctuations
  • age
  • gravity
  • genetics

These factors will lead to the loss of breast volume and its fall. The breast is emptied especially in its upper part, the nipples are lowered and point downwards, which makes them unsightly and a reason for lowering self-esteem. Breast lift is the solution.

Goals

Mastopexy aims to improve the aesthetic appearance of the breasts and restore their youthfulness by:

  • symmetrizing the breasts
  • elevating the nipples
  • filling the cleavage
  • reducing the size of the areolas

What a breast lift cannot do

Breast lift alone does not restore the previous volume of an emptied breast. For this it will have to be associated with a breast augmentation with implant.

Scar

When it comes to a small lift and especially if it is associated with breast augmentation, the scar can be summed up as a simple peri-areolar line, hidden in the areola-skin border.

For moderate lifts, add a vertical line from the areola to the inframammary fold (Lollypop scar).

For large breast lifts, we must add a scar hidden in the inframammary fold (inverted T scar).

All of these scars improve over the months until they are almost invisible.
